Tiny Life

You might feel like you know, because, yes, there are many situations in life where someone can aggravate your so much, scare you so much, and love you so much, but when it’s so tiny and incapable of living for itself, it’s eye opening to the extreme. At least it has been for me.

My little daughter, at only 17 months old, can push every. single. button. Some buttons I didn’t even know existed until she came into my life.

Where one minute, you’re chasing her away from the trash cans, the bathroom, the potted plants… Her crying and screaming all the while because she wants to touch EVERYTHING, and I’m mean daddy for not letting her touch these bacteria infested things.

To then watching her play in the bathtub, making motorboat noise with her mouth and scooting around the tub, and getting that hilarious look of surprise when she accidentally splashes herself in the face. Then drying her off and she clings to you for warmth and comfort and you brush her long hair dry and get her cuddled into her pajamas.

To then, instead of rushing to the next task, the next chore, you sit by her bed and run your fingers along her forehead and listen to her breathing get quieter and quieter as she slowly drifts off to sleep.

And you realize how big the world is to this tiny little life, and how small you’ve made that same world to yourself because you’re so caught up in what should be, needs to be, and what can’t be… Forgetting what could be… The dreams of the tiny life should not stop with that short time frame of the tiny life. Just because we get bigger, doesn’t mean the world gets smaller, we allow ourselves to simply get boxed into a small compartment of that big world…

Maybe one day I’ll figure out why I stuck myself in mine, continue to stay stuck in it, and how to venture back out of it in order to view it as would a tiny life like my daughter sees it again.

Hopefully, I figure it out in time to help her not get stuck in the same tiny corner of the world too.
