The Truth Behind the 2G Conspiracy

With a CBI court recently giving its verdict stating that there was no scam in the allocation of 2G spectrum, it is important to understand what actually happened and what has been force-fed to the people of the country. The Congress took a long-term view when it decided to allocate the 2G spectrum after taking into account various factors at play. Critics have unfortunately taken a very narrow view of the policy.

A far-sighted policy decision was unfairly criticised, and motivated cried of a “scam” were orchestrated to derail the allocation process. The domino effect of that is still being felt in the telecom industry in the form of the high NPAs. The truth behind the 2G conspiracy hatched by the BJP, aided by an overzealous CAG, and unquestioning media led to the unravelling of the economy.
