The very first time I made this dish, my family absolutely loved it. I’m asked to make it several times a month, and when I do, they can’t get enough. Please bear in mind that my son is an extremely…

ISO Dating

So I talk about a movies depending on my mood, and I thought this movie would be perfect given the circumstances most of us are in. That being we have met someone through a dating app and of course that’s when the world has decided to have a global pandemic. Awesome.

It all started with me and my big spoon talking this morning and I mentioned I loved (Name of Movie) thinking he’s a guy, he hasnt seen it and I’m completely left surprised when he suggests I should tie it up with our situation, a very similar one to the characters – He gives us ISO DATING; Having met on an app — texting everyday, mostly all day everyday, phone calls, facetime, talking about anything really, from the day to day to hopes and dreams. Currently waiting patiently for this pandemic to be over so we can go back to normal life/work/socialising/travelling. When I say patiently I truly mean we are going crazy not being able to be together but facetime will suffice for the time being but anyway enough about us I just wanted to give you some context on why this movie.

Most of us have been on a dating app and if you say you haven’t you’re lying! its a pretty normal thing now for us busy bees, but let me tell you more about this pair who met on an online chatroom when chat rooms were a thing. They got along, spoke everyday and decided to have a pen pally relationship. Can you guess what movie yet? ill give you more clues hes a fox and she hates big chain bookstores with no personal touch? I have faith that you know what movie this is! YES ! one of our most amazing classics directed by Nora Ephron starring Meg fucking Ryan yes! I’m a big fan! and of course the very composed Tom Hanks.

Modern day dating?

This would never happen in this decade because we are unable to just enjoy an annoymous conversatioon.

The disapointment in hearing she is indeed Kathleen kelly and rushes to the window to see for himself, meanwhile Kathleen has now got a glum look on her face and quite anxious to see her pen pal. Augh Joe fox walks in. apparently decided hey lets go in anyway, obviously doesnt disclose who he really is AGAIN. Gives her a hard time. Her comeback silences him and he leaves standing her up. Her still not knowing her date showed up but just didn’t tell her who he was. They appear to continue their empty lives, No email with an explanation seems to be sent leading her to overthink every possible excuse of why he didnt show up; coming up with one theory of him being a serial killer oh wow we women really OVERTHINK IT! . Modern day no text back, Ghosting. Obviously after getting stood up she did what every woman would do she started writing that email telling him she hoped he had a good enough reason for standing her up. In our Modern day we would send a long ass text asking what had happened. trying to not come off angry and psycho. I said trying.

In this email she tells him how she was brave and said what she wanted to say when she wanted to say it to mean Joe Fox which made her feel cruel and she didnt like it. She also tells him she misses talking to him and that he doesnt seem to be the man who would do such a thing and then the best quote was said —

Being a romantic- this quote stuck with me because times have changed and romance isnt what it use to be. I also appreciate and love the little things, the little things mean more than the big things we could possibly have with that person.

This is followed by Joe signing out AOL — Goodbye! he comes back to his laptop and starts composing an email, brainstorming all excuses with none of them sounding right. delete delete delete. Starts with an apology, apologises for the fact he wasnt there and the fact she was forced to have a conversation with Joe Fox. Continues to type ‘mean while im still here, talk to me’ and they go back to pen pally relationship vibes. I love hearing those words. Right now those words give me butterflies, its what we want to hear.

She and Frank break up amicably and he asks her that question we all hate in breakups — is their someone else? she responds with ‘No, but there is the dream of someone else’. I guess she replied like that because she dreams of this person being real, this person she talks to everyday; but because you cant see them or touch them it seems like a dream. it doesnt seem real.

Meg Ryan in You’ve Got Mail

He sits by her and says ‘I wanted to be your friend’ he then asks about the guy she was meant to be meeting at the cafe which then makes Kathleen confess with embarrasement that they met on the internet and like in every movie the title is used in conversation ‘Hmmm You’ve Got Mail, those are very powerful words’.

Joe convinces her that she and ‘NY152'’ should meet, from then on they start to bump into eachother and he remains curious about how the online relationship is going.

‘NY152’ emails and arranges for them to meet in Riverside Park -91st Street Garden which believe me when I’m telling you is where I will be going to sip on my cappucino when i visit NYC YES! i havent been to nyc yet, its crazy and very terrible of me. Fox also arranges with Kathleen to meet for some food in the vecinity and they take a little stroll were he pours his heart out in his way basically asking Kathleen if they would have had a shot if he hadnt run her out of business. She gets emotional obviously like every woman on the planet in that final scene and leaves him standing there running to get home to change for her little meet with ‘NY152’.

Declaration of love?

We see her get to 91st street Garden and wow how anxious she must have felt, she looks in every direction and sees noone. A couple minutes pass; I honestly would have checked my phone like 5 times already for the time or any messages but hey different decade haha she finally sees him ! She sees Joe Fox and then everything starts to make sense, ‘NY152 IS JOE FOX! Finally…took her long enough !!!

The pending kiss, that first kiss, the electricity we feel, the spark wow in my opinion they took too long before kissing but I wanted to leave you with another iconic quote of what she says to him in that moment- ‘I wanted it to be you, i wanted it to be you, so badly’.

Quote by Nora & Delia Ephron

OK! that was a very long sysnopsis with a sprinkle of Little Spoon commentary. Giving this movie a full 10/10 Just because its a feel good and it is guaranteed to cheer you up. It will make you smile and I think we need to smile more in these uncertain times.

Little Spoon x
