Wellthy an upgrade to caregiving.

When people talk about their jobs it is generally a very foreign field in regards to their time spent at home. For most people the things they do at work are not the same things they do at home. This fact stretches from fields such as working in hospitals as a nurse or doctor, to working at a police officer or firemen. However when people hear about my weekend I usually get strange looks and get asked the common question of “wait a minute you said you went to work?”, well for me work consists of the tasks of day to day life that are simple for me however not so simple for others. I am a Direct Care Professional or DSP for short, my job consists of working and supporting individuals born with developmental disabilities that prevent them from taking part in certain aspects in their lives that maybe simple to the rest of us. At my job I do the typical caregiver tasks ranging from cooking, cleaning, feeding, and handling medications. However when I am at work I am also in a sense a teacher in regards to supporting the individuals I work with allowing them to retain certain life skills while also learning new ones. The part I enjoy most about my job is being able to take the time and go out and explore with the individuals I support, a common place we go is the park and the mall. These are excellent spaces that hold many learning opportunities, when I am out with them I have a strong tendency to remind them of street safety reminding them to come to a stop at crosswalks and looking both ways before crossing the street, or reminding them about personal space and to say “excuse me” when walking through groups of people. As a caregiver in the field that I specifically work in being residential care, the individuals I work with require someone else to cook for them, thus house skills such as cooking are not something we teach as a lack of understanding or desire to improve in this is not there. However skills such as cleaning are supported through the day ranging from cleaning ones room to cleaning up after themselves at the dinner table and in the bathroom such as cleaning toothpaste or spilt mouthwash.

Now moving away from my job and my personal experience working as a care provider for individuals with disabilities, I want to take some time and shed light on a company that is not only working to help people who need a caregiver either in home or in a facility setting. This company being Wellthy, what I love most about this company after discovering it is the fact that they are revolutionizing the way that people who need a care provider are receiving the help they need, and the way that families are being communicated with to insure that your loved one is safe, secure, and receiving the proper aide they need. Wellthy works with you as a family keeping a strong sense of communication through the use of email and texting your care provider, also receiving updates on the well being of your loved one.

When reading about this company I was somewhat skeptical as most business regardless of what they are have people who run them who have no idea about the field or what it is like working with the individuals who receive aide from care providers. When reading about the CEO of Wellthy Lindsay Jurist-Rosner, I realized I could not have been more wrong. Lindsay has first hand experience of working as a care provider at a young age as her mother developed a chronic condition requiring Lindsay to bathe, feed, and clothe her mother. Knowing this I can honestly say that this company is something that truly cares about the people of the world who need aid from care providers, this company is a seed planted from Lindsay’s heart to grow and provider for others who will eventually need aid.

Ultimately the message I want to spread to those who may not know much about the field of working as a care provider, or those who maybe interested in this as a career path is to do some research. Regardless of where you are living there is likely a business that is close to you that you can volunteer and learn about what it means to be a care provider. This is a field that requires little more than compassion, kindness, and patience and these being attributes most of us have I advise you all to take the time and learn what you can do to help those in your community and if you so choose become a care provider and help those in need make leaps and bounds into bettering themselves and living the most wholesome life possible.
