Global Consent Manager site critique

I was asked to conduct a usability test on the new website proposed for Global Consent Manager. I chose not to perform any specific tasks since the website is relatively straightforward and intuitive, but I had a few design suggestions for the GCM team. The only task I could perform would be installing the software itself, which can be done entirely through an external link listed on the site.

First, I would recommend providing an option for the user to download Global Consent Manager from the navigation menu and making the nav static as you scroll down each page. A static menu seems to be a common feature for many software sites such as Google Chrome and Firefox. Users will be more likely to download the software if the download button appears on all the pages rather than just one.

Here’s what the Chrome website looks like when you scroll down the page, for example:

In addition, I would consider placing the “LEARN MORE” tab before the “HOW-TO” one. Naturally, a user who has never heard of Global Consent Manager will want to learn more about the software before they install it. I would think of “LEARN MORE” as an ‘about’ page, which typically goes either first or last in the navigation menu.

“CONTACT” was the page that received the most criticism from the class, and I agree that this page is a little confusing. Obviously, it’s not really the project team’s job to change the text content of the site, but I think it would make more sense to change the name of this page to something similar to “MEET THE TEAM” and have individual bios for Marti, Goggins and Germonprez rather than one long block of text about how GCM was created. You could put Matt Snelling’s email address on the homepage or something and try to clearly indicate it as the person to contact if people have questions. In my opinion, a contact page is warranted only if the organization can be reached in multiple ways.

If you all have any questions about my feedback, please feel free to email me at davidreynolds@mail.missouri.edu. I hope you find this helpful.
