The rona got us.

The last 72 hours have been surreal for myself, let alone a lot of people. Sports has taught me life lessons and honestly, it’s given me a lot of my friends near or far. In fact, I was just at a wedding this past weekend to celebrate one of my close friends I grew up with because we bonded over basketball.

Obviously, the coronavirus or COVID-19 is serious. Let’s take care of each other first. That’s important. The sports world can wait. You can delay things and play most of these events at another time.

That being said, I’m sad that there’s no Men’s or Women’s NCAA tournament. I’m sad I won’t get to see Dayton’s Obi Toppin attempt a 360 dunk on some poor 16 seed. Devastated for Oregon’s Sabrina Ionescu, who came back to the university to deliver the school’s first women’s national title. Teams like San Diego State, & Baylor, who were having historic seasons wont get to see their names on selection Sunday.

I think we take for granted how much life is — that regardless of the illness and outcomes, sports will be there. No matter how ridiculous America can be, we’ll have at least a game on ESPN. But for now, we don’t. We won’t for awhile and for people like myself, who get off work excited to just watch a game, find ourselves just searching for anything.

Yes, between the NCAA, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc, they made the right decision. We’re in a pandemic with this virus and we must stop the spread. That doesn’t also mean that I can’t be sad neither.

It stinks that we won’t get to see teams play next week with some guys who just dream to be on the floor apart of the NCAA tournament because they grew up watching it. But it’ll be back. They’ll be back.

Stay safe guys. Be mindful of how you’re feeling. Take care of yourself and others, too.
