Rain man

John finally managed to slip into bed at the respectable hour of 2:17 AM and turned the night light off with a sigh. The cool pillow felt like heaven against his head, brain still buzzing with endless numbers and names. End of tax season tested everyone’s sanity.

The pitter-patter of rain outside was usually a welcome sound before sleep, but not this evening. There was something grating at his consciousness, something not quite right. It felt like the sounds almost had an order and the more he listened, the more deafening they became.

I should take a vacation, he thought, looking irritably around the room. Suddenly, a small yellow book caught his eye, almost invisible under the pile of sheets on his desk. “Morse code for dummies” — the latest in his endless string of hobbies started and forgotten before he became any good at them.

And then it clicked. He stood there for several minutes, transfixed by what he was hearing. Suddenly, he lunged for his desk and began filling sheet after sheet of paper with numbers and letters. Dawn found him still at his desk, grinning like an idiot at the haphazard pile of documents in front of him.

The rain stopped shortly before 10 AM. And John fell into the deepest and happiest slumber of his life.

SMALL BUSINESS INVESTMENT FIRM SCORES HIGH

The small investment firm “Smith & Hale” from Boston became the biggest hit on Wall Street last month, after some ingenious investments that left everybody wondering — where are they getting their information?

The investigation for inside trading revealed that they were, in fact, clean and relied only on the financial savvy of their chief analyst Jonh Taylor. Amidst the whirlwind of press, he was showered with job offers from some of the biggest players on Wall Street — all of which were declined.

We could not reach John for an interview, his colleagues citing that he “preferred to spend his free time in his small villa, with phone and internet turned off, enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature”.
