My Vocals Like Rubber Bangles

FREE VERSE AND SHOUT-OUT TO AMAZING WRITERS

They fail to utter what’s there in the heart

That sweet glimpse of you, when my eyes get to see it,
this heart of mine becomes a speculum, polished by water,
and my meandering journey finds a straight path,
destined towards you.

And then, even when your shadow has left, those moments,
they make a permanent mark in my heart,
my mind re-living those exact snapshots from the bygone moments.

My eyes, drinking the potion, afflicted by your eyes,
cannot sleep, staring into the moonlit light,
falling on the sleepy banyan tree leaves, falling on the
nest of a cuckoo bird who has slept too.

Why does it feel as if not a bite has managed,
managed to reach the stomach, the throat, so dry, for ages,
my mouth searching for the saliva that refuses to be consumed,
I keep kicking myself virtually, as to why, why could I not
utter a single word, although there was so much to say,
so much rolling in my vocal chord, trying to burst out from the heart,
from the gurgling of the stomach,
but alas.

Did my vocals betray my heart, betray my inner words,
just like those bangles, those rubber bangles,
that do not emanate any sound, however hard they try,
however hard they cling and clang into one another,
but the sound, muted.
