Is Facebook Toxic?
Facebook knows what they are doing. They are targeting specific crowds. For body image they are targeting pre teens and young adults. For false information they are targeting a lot of the times older people, like my own grandfather who believes it because everything on the internet must be true!
This is the world we live in, Facebook controls the world we live in. A couple of weeks ago facebook, instagram and whatsapp went down for more than 10 hours, and it was almost as if the world froze. People did not know what to do with themselves, they took to other apps to find out what was going on, and how to cope with the fact that they can not use these media apps. I believe Facebook is a toxic place, which is why I have recently decided to get off the app. In deleting both facebook and instagram for the next month I have began to realize my life has become happier. I am not stuck scrolling for hours on end and reading depression articles. Facebook is toxic and people are stuck, no the solution does not have to be to get rid of the apps entirely. A much simpler solution if for makers of the app such as Zuckerberg to create a safer space within the app, one that wont lead people to the wrong things and one that would allow for a clean and safe internet with the truth. This isnt easy because there is a fine line between this and censoring the masses, but I think that makers of this app are smart enough to create an algorithm that can mend the wounds facebook has created.
