Serial killers in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka only had handful of serial killers

In Europe and USA serial killers are nothing new, there is a long line of serial killers in these countries with popular characters like ‘Jack the ripper’, and ‘zodiac killer’.

However, Sri Lanka is not famous for serial killers, there has been no record of serial killers in Sri Lanka up until recent times.

Although there has been ganster related violence in Sri Lanka with people killing other gangster members they do not target a particular group of people or don’t follow a certain pattern like in serial killings.

The only records of serial killers in Sri Lanka that I can find was the Kotakethana murders where elderly women were murdered with clear pattern noticed in every killing.

And the mysterious deaths of homeless people in Colombo that happened 3–4 years back, with the homeless people being killed by a putting on stone onto their heads, this also followed a clear pattern no one was apprehended. The killings stopped after 3–4 murders.

Although according to experts not all Kotakethana murder victims were killed by the same person they have found that some of the killings were committed by the same person. Making him the only known serial killer in Sri Lanka.

And the real identity of the Kotakethana killer has also been a topic of debate. Because not all Kotakethana murders were committed by the same person multiple suspected were arrested in connection with the killings.

According to some the real Kotakethana killer is among the arrested while some believe that the serial killer has not yet being arrested and still out there in Kotakethana.
