Those were the days.

There were days at my grandpa‘s ranch where I could go anywhere I wanted to go and explore the whole mountain top that he owned. There were days I’d climb the highest tree all by myself without any…

Limit your gear in order to expand

You don’t need expensive equipment to take good photos

Whether you picked up your camera when you were a child or it is a recently acquired hobby, photography is a great way to explore the world. Regardless of what the world means to you at the moment.

When first starting, people might swoon over expensive lenses or equipment, thinking: If only I had that, my photos would be so much better — I know I’ve been there. But it is a fine line between actually needing extra gear or extra knowledge.

And knowledge these days is easy to find. Many teachers are ready to share their experiences and expertise, some even for free. A Google search, depending on the wording used, can give you over 1 billion results. Over the years, I’ve followed different photographers with different ways of seeing the world. The key is to experiment until you find your niche. And, as with anything, it takes time.

It is best to play it on the safe side than to invest only to find out that it gives you no pleasure. A photographer only interested in landscape shots won’t be so excited about a macro lens.

We live in a time where choices can be overwhelming. There are big brands and small brands, and even knock-offs on the market. There are DSLRs, mirrorless, compact, phone cameras, and much more. There are expensive and cheap alternatives. And there is you: an enthusiastic individual ready to dive into the world of photography.

No matter what type of camera you own or how expensive the brand, there will always be something that you do not know. This is life. The idea is to keep on learning and improving yourself, regardless of the ways you do it. Some may like videos. Others might be interested in seminars.

In a way, cameras are like cars. The driver is the most critical element. How you drive is essential.

Is it the crisp outline of the subjects or the otherworldly colors of a sunset?
