Another pointless stat that helps nobody

I swore I had written my last piece on Covid19 and the pandemic. Yet day after day I’m confronted with hogwash and propaganda created to mislead people. By now, everybody has made up their mind. You either wear a mask or not. You either wash your hands or don’t. You either stay away from people or embrace them like long-lost lovers. You either vaccinate or don’t.

None of the above is a major hardship compared to some of the world’s larger issues. Problems such as systemic racism, toxic masculinity, hate speech and the world slowly burning due to manmade environmental disasters. It doesn’t stop there either. Poverty, starvation, the growing divide between the haves and have-nots, the rising cost of education and healthcare and then there’s Bezos super-duper phallic sputtering rocket race to the moon to worry about.

Issues everywhere you turn.

It’s not hard to wash your hands. Everybody should do it. Yes, it's an aerial disease but cleaning helps. As does mask-wearing, with the disclaimer it needs to be the right kind of mask and the right kind of fitting. Staying away from possible virus-infected people, that’s a tough call. I’m not a scientist but I do believe in science. If the science crowd believes this is for the best, then that’s what I’ll do. You may think it's a conspiracy and that the ENTIRE planet has colluded with each other to control people with science…but I suspect otherwise. You may even believe that all the cash-rich pharmaceuticals have formed a secret cabal to keep you sick and scared in order to get even richer. You may be right…I have no proof otherwise.

I won’t touch the vaccine argument. It’s your choice. Like a flu vaccine. It’s entirely up to you. Or the measles and smallpox vaccine. You don’t have to have one, the chances of ever catching the measles are slim unless you live in Samoa where 3% of the population caught measles in 2019. The Samoans stopped believing in science. They had trouble remembering what measles looked like. They felt they were immune for life. The vaccination rate fell from 74% to 31% of the population. True, not a lot of people died but try explaining that to the families who lost…
