Keep Your Brain Sharp with These Simple Habits

Don’t let your brain ageing

It is a frightening yet an inevitable fact of life that the human body will deteriorate as we age. This includes the functions of our joints, lungs, bones and, unfortunately, our brain.

However, that is not to say that we cannot do anything to mitigate that effect. There are some ‘tricks’ to preserve our mental ability and keep it churning just as effectively.

So, are you ready to make some easy lifestyle changes and keep your mind sharp even as the years go by? These are some simple habits to keep your brain sharp that you might want to consider taking up.

If your goal is to have a sharp mind even as you age, then it is prudent for you to adopt a mindset which prioritizes lifelong learning as early as possible. Research by Harvard claims that the more educated a person is, the better their mental functioning will remain in old age. Of course, this does not mean you need a Masters or Doctorate degree.

The idea is to keep stimulating your brain with new information and challenging problems. Sure, you can do this by writing a thesis, but learning can come through acquiring new hobbies and skills too.

Plus, being a lifelong learner will also set you up for success as being open-minded can open plenty of doors for you.

One fun and effective way for you to keep your brain active are by playing brain games like puzzles, crosswords and Sudoku. Adults who regularly do puzzles are known to have brains that function up to 10 years younger than their age. Impressive, right?

Brain teasers and games can engage your memory, attention and reasoning while keeping your brain sharp the more you do it. Although no concrete proof has been shown that these puzzles can actually keep your brain sharp, strong reasons are supporting this.

The act of solving and challenging your brain is akin to doing sit-ups. You’re doing mental exercises to keep your mind fit, instead of letting it sit too idly for too long and forget how to think critically.
